Sea cucumbers are now harvested in more than 80 countries, therefore it is necessary to actualize the Guide of commercial sea cucumber species edited in 2012 by FAO, including the new target species and countries catching them. Mr Lovatelli, general coordinator of this FAO project, published a short communication about this subject in the SPC Beche-de-mer Information Bulletin, nº 41 (March 2021, https://coastfish.spc.int/en/publications/bulletins/beche-de-mer).
Dr. Mercedes Wangüemert from WANGUMAR SLU, is responsible for the Mediterranean and NE Atlantic areas in this new Guide of commercial sea cucumbers edited by FAO. Information about the new target species is being collected including, morphological features for identification, geographical distribution, range, fisheries, regulation, etc. Any useful information about sea cucumber species inhabiting these geographical areas could be addressed to mercedes@wangumar.com or wangumemar@gmail.com.
