ABSTRACT
In 2012, it was published the first guide about “Commercially important sea cucumbers of the world” (Commercially important sea cucumbers of the world (fao.org) by FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations), where 58 species of sea cucumbers were included. However, in the last years more target species of sea cucumbers are being caught and sold in Asiatic markets. Therefore, it is mandatory to include the new commercial species in a second edition of this guide.
Dr. Mercedes Wangüemert was hired by FAO through European Bureau for Conservation and Development (EBCD) to be responsible for the inclusion of the new target sea cucumber species from Mediterranean and NE Atlantic in the 2nd Edition of Commercial Sea Cucumbers Guide. The project will be carried out during 2021, and the Second Edition of this Guide could be published in 2022.
